PRINCIPAL GIFT OFFICER, COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

THE UNIVERSITY OF TOLEDO, TOLEDO, OHIO

   
The Position

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Development and working closely with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, this Principal Gift Officer (PGO) will:

  • Cultivate, solicit and close donors capable of $100,000 and up. These activities should yield $5 million in gifts and pledges annually.
  • Work with Dean Gutteridge to oversee and implement activities designed to solicit and close College prospective donors.
  • Schedule high-end donor meetings, at least two visits per year.
  • Plan and implement a minimum of one high-end donor event each year. This should be an event which the President and/or other key University officials might attend.
  • Service on CASE or AFP committee.
  • Serve as a consultant/advisor not-for-profit in the area.
  • Provide mentoring to junior development officers.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong desire to associate with The University of Toledo, College of Business and to champion its mission.
  • A minimum of seven (7) years of increasingly responsible positions in development with significant experience and success in major gift campaigns.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of:
    • Programs that will increase giving participation and absolute dollar levels of gifts.
    • Information technology to achieve goals and more effectively manage communications.
    • The importance to overall University Development activities of maintaining lasting and positive donor relations.
  • Proven skills in:
    • Strategic planning and implementation goals and objectives.
    • Communicating effectively in writing and orally.
    • Interpersonal relationship building with both internal and external constituents.
    • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Successfully ask for contributions and "close the sale".
    • Engage other team members and constituents.
    • Set and appropriately manage the demands and stress of priorities and deadlines; be a team player.
    • Be self-motivated and appropriately driven while being collaborative.
  • Bachelor’s degree; masters preferred.

The Institution

The University of Toledo (UT) is one of 13 state universities in Ohio. It was established in 1872 and became a member of the state university system in 1967. The University of Toledo and the Medical University of Ohio merged in 2006 to form the third-largest public university operating budget in the state.

UT is a community built around eleven academic colleges and professional programs matched only by a handful of public universities nationwide, including The Ohio State University and the University of Michigan.

Mission

The UT College of Business Administration is committed to preparing a diverse body of students for life-long careers as leaders and contributing professionals, to delivering influential research and publications and to enhancing the world of business practice and serving as a resource for regional economic development.

Vision

The UT College of Business Administration will become a global leader among public metropolitan business schools known for integrating disciplinary excellence with technology, management expertise as well as the integration of knowledge and practice and highly regarded as a learning partner of choice for students and the business community.

Established in 1930, the College of Business Administration offers 13 BBA undergraduate specializations, as well as Bachelor degrees in Applied Organizational Technology and Information Technology and an Associates Degree in Business Technology. In addition, an MBA, EMBA, MS in Accounting, and a Ph.D. in Manufacturing and Technology Management are offered. A minor in business is also available for non-business undergraduate majors as is a MBA specialization at the graduate level.

The College of Business Administration offers cutting edge research and academic programs in a variety of career fields including financial services, electronic commerce, entrepreneurship, professional accounting, international business, information systems, human resource management, marketing, professional sales and supply chain management.

The College has an outstanding reputation for providing interns and graduates capable of meeting diverse employment needs in today’s global business community. It is one of only 15 percent of the business colleges worldwide to have achieved accreditation from the Association for the Advancement of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB International).

POINTS OF PRIDE

  • Enrollment - Steady enrollments over the last six years; the College is currently at 3,100 students across all degree levels.
  • Business Career Programs Office - Assists in placing students in both internship and permanent career positions. Currently, 546 companies actively participate in this program, and the College takes pride in stating that it has an 80% placement rate upon graduation of those students seeking employment.
  • Academic focus - The five academic departments work closely with the College’s award-winning Center for Family Business, the Schmidt School of Professional Sales, the International Business Institute and the Center for Technological Entrepreneurship and Innovation to provide outstanding learning opportunities for students, the University and the business community.
  • Visiting Executive and Visiting Entrepreneur Programs - Programs which bring business executives to campus to meet with students and discuss real-world business experiences with them.
  • State-of-the-art technology - Top 25 percent of all AACSB business colleges in technology. The College has 120 wireless Dell laptops/tablet PC’s and 133 Dell desktops, which are accessible 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
  • Neff Financial Trading Room - Through a gift from John B. and Lillian Neff, the College has established a Financial Trading Room in Stranahan Hall. The trading room offers students access to financial data from around the world and allows them to simulate buying commodities, bonds, equities, and futures contracts.
  • $1 Million Student Investment Fund - Provides students with the opportunity to actively trade on the New York Stock Exchange and the Dow Jones, using real money. Students work closely with the UT Foundation Board during this process.
  • Freshman "Jump Start" Program - Through a gift from John B. and Lillian Neff, selected College of Business first year students get a head start on their college experience participating in several days of targeted academic and social activities with faculty, staff, alumni and members of the greater Toledo business community.
  • International Initiatives - The College has developed academic partnerships with institutions in both China and India.
  • Savage & Associates Complex for Business Learning and Engagement - Planning is underway for a new addition. This adjoining Complex will function as the intellectual hub for the College’s outreach and business partnership activities. Occupancy is expected in Fall 2009.
  • More than $150,000 in scholarship money has been distributed to College of Business students for this year.

The Mission of Institutional Advancement is to support The University of Toledo by fostering a spirit of loyalty among its friends and by securing philanthropic resources to enhance learning, discovery and engagement opportunities for the University and the community it serves.

The Division of Institutional Advancement is organized into three areas:

  • The Office of Special Events

"The Time is Now", a $100 million broad-based, university-wide campaign, is currently in progress. As of December 31, 2007, $90 million has been raised.
